Asbestos at Work

Simon Cocker, President of the AFTF, welcomed the support of Unions Tas today in rolling out the Asbestos at Work package though its network. ‘We have produced a pack of materials and images for workers, around asbestos and its management.’ He said. ‘We are pleased to be working with Unions Tas to roll out the information to as many of its members as possible over the coming months.’ A website has been developed to support the materials and information roll out and was launched in early November.

A successful partnership between AFTF and TasBuild has resulted in the release of a high quality information package being offered to TasBuild members. Read more….. The package includes information sheets in a presentation folder, and an information session of an hour and a half, including images, key messages about asbestos, and where to find further support. TasBuild administers the long service leave fund for workers in the construction industry, and has over 11,000 members. Chris Atkins CEO of TasBuild is very pleased with the package. ‘I think it is vital that workers are aware of the dangers of asbestos,’ he said. ‘The awareness sessions are a powerful way to do that.’ The session covers; what asbestos is, where it can be found, the health hazards associated with exposure to asbestos fibres, and the new laws around managing asbestos in the workplace.
